5 Ways to Find Dance Retreats for Beginners

Dancing on the Beach in Puerto Rico

If you are looking for a vacation to both unwind and fill your creative cup, dance retreats can be the perfect fit for your next getaway.

But If you’ve never been on a one or are unsure how to find a retreat, the search can be daunting. Lucky for you, I’ve found 5 places that helped me discover hundreds of dance retreats.

1)       Dance Teachers-    Many dance teachers in all genres of dance are starting to host international getaways. For example, there are a ton of dance teachers in New York City hosting retreats abroad.

To find the right teacher for you first answer these 2 questions:

·       What style of dance are you interested in learning?

·       What country/region of the world do you want to go?

If you know what style of dance you are interested in learning, you can look up teachers in your local area or region.  Then check their website and or contact them to see if they are planning a retreat abroad.

2)  Instagram – is by far one of the easiest methods to find retreats.

Simply go to the search tab and type in dance retreat. You can search by both accounts and people who have used the #danceretreat.

When I looked up dance retreat, I got at least 50 dance retreat account results and over12.8K posts using the #danceretreat alone.

To narrow your search type (dance genre +retreat). For instance, if you want to go to a salsa retreat type salsa retreat in the search.

You can use the same method to find a retreat in a specific country (country +retreat)

3)       Bookretreats.com - This website is considered the #1 website in the world to find retreats. Under category type in dance retreat.

There are quite a few that come up. This website is best suited for dance retreats with a spiritual component or wellness retreats. I’ve seen a lot of ecstatic dance and tribal fusion retreats on this site. But it’s not best for more mainstream forms of dance like Hip Hop, Salsa, ect.

4)       Youtube- I love taking online dance classes through YouTube.

I found the Cuban Salsa retreat that I went to this summer by following the channel Dance Doctor.

What I love about finding retreats by taking dance classes on YouTube is that you get to know the host that is taking you on the adventure before meeting them in person.

It’s not always the case that the person giving the online class is the host for the retreat, but most of the time it is.

5)       Us- Join our Puerto Rico Dance and Culture Retreat Nov 30- Dec7.  If you love Latin Dance Styles and Tropical vacays this is for you!
