“We’re All Immigrants”
What is the reality of chasing the ‘American Dream?’ What is it like to plant roots in this land of opportunity? Has immigration to the U.S. improved through time?
We’re All Immigrants is a narrative fusion dance advocacy piece about the struggles of current immigration law. The show follows two Latinx immigrants present-day as they come to America to live the ‘American Dream,’ and are presented with the struggle of immigration status. The piece puts on stark display the hypocrisy of current immigration law through juxtaposition, taking you back in time through immigration to America from its beginnings in 1600 to today.
Entertaining, inspiring, and thought-provoking, the piece is embedded with multiple styles, traditional music from countries around the world, an easy-to-follow storyline, and a chance to reflect on America’s true stance on immigration. This performance is presented as part of SMUSH Gallery’s Summer 2021 Arts Residency Program.
“I’m SO glad it made it to this event! I can’t wait for the next one.”
